We endeavour to treat personal and confidential organisational information with equal care and respect. To reflect this we are committed to upholding the statements below.

What information is being collected?

When you sign up to StepJockey an active email address is required to identify your account within the system. Once you have an account the following optional set of information can be collected by the mobile app, or web dashboard

  • First Name & Last name
  • Username / Alias
  • Date of birth
  • Height
  • Weight
  • Avatar image
  • Organisation name

By using the StepJockey service and mobile application we can potentially collect the following information about you…

  • Stair location / dimensions
  • Stair calories tracked
  • Stair steps tracked
  • Stair journeys tracked
  • User activities from Apple Health / Google Fit (If you give permission)

Collecting, processing and sharing data

StepJockey Ltd  shall be the controller for the Collected Data – this means that StepJockey Ltd decides what Collected Data is processed and why. The data can be collected via the StepJockey Mobile App, or via the StepJockey Web Application. Any data collected will be used exclusively to provide the StepJockey service. We don’t, and never will sell or rent your information to any 3rd party unconnected with providing the StepJockey service.

To help us deliver StepJockey we use various 3rd party apps. We asses all these apps to ensure compliance with the GDPR, our Privacy Policy, and to ensure your data remains in safe hands.

StepJockey will protect confidentiality and security of your information, and not allow such third parties to use that information other than in connection with the provisions of the Service, we use the following 3rd party apps to provide the StepJockey service.

  • Microsoft Azure
  • Mailchimp
  • Google Inc.
  • Slack
  • Freshdesk

As a general rule, StepJockey will not disclose any of your personally identifiable information except when we have your permission or under special circumstances, such as when we believe in good faith that the law requires it. StepJockey may preserve Content and may disclose Content to any third party if required to do so by law or in good faith belief that such preservation or disclosure is necessary to:

a) comply with legal process

b) enforce the Terms of Use.

c) respond to claims that any Content violated the rights of third parties

d) protect the rights, property, or personal safety of StepJockey, its members and the public

If you identify yourself as part of an Organisation within the StepJockey app then we may provide that Organisation with your information in the event you qualify for a reward as part of a programme. We may also use your data as part of an aggregated anonymised dataset to provide statistics and analysis on the StepJockey programme with your chosen Organisation.

We use this information to identify you within the StepJockey platform and personalise notifications

Username / Alias

We use this as the name that other StepJockey users and colleagues can use to identify you in a challenge or global leaderboard

Date of birth

We use this to calculate your accurate calorie burn for each stair journey. We may also use it for analysis in aggregated anonymised datasets

Height

We use this to calculate your accurate calorie burn for each stair journey. We may also use it for analysis in aggregated anonymised datasets

Weight

We use this to calculate your accurate calorie burn for each stair journey. We may also use it for analysis in aggregated anonymised datasets

Avatar image

We use this as the profile image that other StepJockey users and colleagues can use to identify you in a challenge or global leaderboard

Organisation name

We ask if you are participating in a StepJockey programme at your workplace / organisation. We do this to identify you as a user of that organisation and enable you to participate in that organisation’s programme.

Stair location / dimensions

We use this to calculate your accurate calorie burn on a stair.

Stair calories tracked

When you use StepJockey to scan StepJockey Smartsigns we record your accurate calorie burn and store this in your account history.

Stair steps tracked

When you use StepJockey to scan StepJockey Smartsigns we record your accurate step count and store this in your account history.

Stair journeys tracked

We record each time you use StepJockey to scan StepJockey Smartsigns and store this in your account history.

User activities from Apple Health / Google Fit (If you give permission)

If you allow the StepJockey mobile app it can use the step and activity data in Google Fit or Apple Health to provide you with the number of active minutes you make on a daily basis. This is recorded as the StepJockey activity score.

How do we store and protect your information?

We take great care to keep your personal information safe, StepJockey and it's databases operate within the Microsoft Azure Cloud Services  platform. Data is encrypted in transit using SSL/TLS and at rest using Transparent Data Encryption

Their computers that are housed in secure EU based data centres with heavily restricted access with numerous levels of security to prevent unauthorised access to those servers including firewalls and passwords.

Parts of our service may be hosted on third party servers which may be outside the EEA.

Does StepJockey use cookies or other tracker technologies?

StepJockey uses cookies to provide basic functionality and to improve the performance and user experience throughout the site. We may also store encrypted information about you using cookies which we can access when you visit our site in future.

How will you communicate with me?

By becoming an account holder, you agree with our Terms of Use and agree that we may provide you with information about our site (whether by email or any other medium) that we consider appropriate. You may opt-out of receiving these materials and notifications clicking a link in the email footer and updating your preferences.

How can you access, update or delete your information?

You may change / request any or all of your information by contacting the StepJockey Team on 0203 397 8377 or emailing us. You can also choose to close your account and permanently delete your data within the settings area of the StepJockey App. We have a data retention policy whereby we notify account holder after 2 years of inactivity our intention to delete their accounts. If we don’t receive a response within 14 days we permanently delete all their data.

What else should I know about my privacy?

Please note that whenever you voluntarily disclose personal information online that information can be collected and used by others. In short, if you disclose personal information online that is accessible to others, you may receive unsolicited messages from other parties in return. You should be aware that you access other websites, using the links provided, these are outside our control. If you provide personal data to other companies, the privacy policies of those companies determine the uses to which that information is put and the StepJockey’s Privacy Policy will no longer apply. This policy may change from time to time, so please check back periodically. Ultimately, you are solely responsible for maintaining the secrecy of your passwords and any information about yourself. Please be careful and responsible whenever you are online.
